Modern Theory of Evolution trivia

1. In the event of a nuclear catastrophe, what creature, able to withstand up to approximately 60, 000 roentgens of radiation, could likely take over the earth? (Humans can safely absorb no more than 200 roentgens.) The COCKROACH back to questions

2. How did humans evolve? Evolution of the Homo lineage of modern humans (Homo sapiens) began with the hunter of nearly 5 feet tall, Homo habilis. Near the beginning of the Pleistocene period (2 million years ago), Homo habilis was transformed into Homo erects (Java man), who used fire and possessed culture. Middle Pleistocene population of Homo erects are said to show steady evolution toward the anatomy of Homo sapiens (Neanderthals, Cro-Magnon, & modern humans) 120,000 to 40,000 years ago.

3. Why do humans have wisdom teeth? Although they are useless to humans now, they must have had some purpose in the past. Nature rarely produces extaneous features. Perhaps when primitive man ate tough meats, the extra molars in the mouth, now known as wisdom teeth, hepled to chew up the meat fibers. As humans evolved, the brain became larger and the face position moved further downward and inward. Also the protruding jawbones of early humans gradually moved backward, leaving no room for these third molars or wisdom teen. back to questions
